History of BCMS

This institution was established in 1981 at the then location of Community primary school which was established in the early 1970’s when the Rivers State Military Government forcefully took our land occupied by the Anglican Secondary Commercial School formerly Elementary Teachers College (ETC) established on the 22nd of January, 1965, which was headed by Mr. Asinugo who served as the first Principal. The change of name from Elementary Teachers College (ETC) to Anglican Secondary Commercial School also witnessed a change in administration headed by Mr. E.W Eke as the new principal. During the Nigerian civil war, the school was closed down and the schools territory was occupied by the military. This period witnessed no academic /educational activities in the school. After the civil war, the premises was continually occupied by the government with continuous utilization of the area and its functioning as community Primary School. The ascension to the throne by the Bishop, Late Rt. Rev. Samuel Onyukwu Elenwo (JP) of the Diocese of Niger Delta in 1981, saw the establishment of the Bishop Crowther Memorial Junior Seminary at the relocation of the community Primary school to St. Andrew’s Church Premises. In 1983, Late Rt. Rev. S.O. Elenwo constituted a committee led by the Diocesan Education adviser, Ven. S.I. Amadi to oversee the establishment of a missionary school that would build my desire in the heart of men, who will live an exemplary life, morally and spiritually upright as shown by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The committee saw the birth of Bishop Crowther Memorial School as declared open by Rt. Rev. S.O. Also in her tenure, six classrooms blocks were donated by Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria. The retirement of Bishop Samuel O.
